Industry - Logistics

Business Drivers

Further to the migration of Cargo division to a separate instance, the customer decided to upgrade the Oracle Financials version from 11.5.5 to 11.5.10.2.

Some of the key drivers were
  • Need for better controls on transactions within the divisions.
  • Upgrade to the latest version.
  • Better performance.
  • Reduction in Operating system License cost.

Solution

Bazaar247 suggested the re-implementation of Oracle Applications for the divisions. BMPL suggested 2 options viz.: One set of books with multiple Operating units where in the control over the General ledger would be centralized and the sub ledgers would be segregated for each division. The other option was to have multiple set of books and multiple operating units. After assessing the pros and cons of both these options, the customer decided to go with the multiple set of books/ multiple operating unit setups.

Project Methodology

The Master data pertaining to each of the 3 divisions were identified and segregated and migrated to the new instance.

The setup was carried out on a development instance and users tested the transaction entry on this instance.

On the CRP instance BMPL carried out the migration of the Open transactions in addition to the master data .The trial balance and the open balances were verified by the users on this instance.

Subsequently the master data and the Open transactions were migrated to the Production instance and the system went live with a span of 16 weeks.

Complexity

  • Requirement to maintain the same ID (oracle auto generated sequence) for the customer related information since the Front office system directly referred to the internal ID’s.
  • Open transactions taking into account the withholding tax already deducted.
  • The customer had extensive interfaces to their Front Office system. Seamless Integration with the Front office system was a key requirement.
  • The source being an Oracle system ,BMPL took the responsibility of extracting the master data as well as Open transactions.

Solution Impact

  • Each division could exercise control over their accounting cycles and streamline the processes.
  • Enforce security across the divisions.
